First Lady Michelle Obama and United States Senator Mark Warner will address the 2012 graduating class of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). The University Commencement ceremony will begin at 12 noon at Lane Stadium. Due to the expected large crowd, the gates will open at 7 a.m. for additional security screenings.

The First Lady will deliver the commencement address to more than 5,000 graduates at Virginia Tech on Friday, May 11, 2012. Mrs. Obama was inspired by the level of resilience from the students, faculty, staff and community following difficult times at the university.

This will be a first for Virginia Tech, the university will offer live streaming video from the Graduate School and University commencements. The video will be available on the university’s homepage at www.vt.edu.

There will be ceremonies held on Friday and Saturday across Virginia Tech’s campus and a complete of activities may be found at http://www.vt.edu/commencement/

Virginia was founded 141 years ago this year. The university’s motto, Ut Proism (That I May Serve), Virginia Tech is the commonwealth’s most comprehensive educational facility and its leading research institution. Virginia Tech offers its  more than 30, 000 students 215 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The university manages a research portfolio of $400 million. The university practices technological leadership which aids in fueling economic growth and job creation locally, regionally and across Virginia.

Mrs. Obama’s next stop is Saturday, May 12, 2012 where she will deliver the address to graduating students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (North Carolina A&T).  Mrs. Obama will talk part in the rich history of  historically black colleges and universities.  The President and First Lady have recognized the importance of HBCU’s educating generations of American Americans. Mrs. Obama simply want to highlight the university’s success.

Mrs. Obama final stop is Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Oregon State University where her brother, Craig Robinson serves as the school’s head men’s basketball coach.  OSU’s has been recognized for efforts to promote healthy communities. OSU’s researchers have worked to identify factors that lead to childhood obesity and are developing programs for school districts, families and health care providers.

If you were convicted of a felony and would like to start the process of getting your rights restored get information here.  Please obtain copies of your sentencing orders and proof that you have paid all fines and restitution -then start the process.  For more information,  go to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website at www.commonwealth.virginia.gov and/or www.sbe.virginia.gov, fill out the application, print it,  and mail it to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office.

Register to vote, check your voter status or start the process of getting your rights restored if convicted of a felony.  To date, Governor Bob McDonnell has granted rights to over 2,790 felons in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Please don’t wait start the process now.

The next rollin rally is Tuesday, May 1 at the Craigland Barber Shop & VCS Hair School 109 West Brookland Park Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23222. The time 6pm-8pm

Bring to the rally your sentencing orders and proof that you are off probation and have paid all fines in full.

 Virginia’s local, state and senatorial primaries will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. The voter registration deadline for the June primary is May 21.  VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

The Rolling for Freedom Project (R4F) has kicked off the voter registration and restoration of rights season. The project will come to you to assist in filling out applications for voter registration or the restoration of rights process. Also, R4F will provide a list of companies that will hire felons.

The 2012 graduating class at Liberty University are not pleased with their respective commencement speaker at the graduation ceremonies.

Liberty University students are unhappy that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will address their graduation. In a letter to students, Liberty Chancellor Jerry Falwell, JR wrote that having Romney at the ceremonies would showcase the university his father has founded.

Students are displaying mixed emotions over Romney’s appearance at graduation. “This is crazy we’re not going to stand for this. He doesn’t stand for the constitution. He doesn’t stand for the bible. He doesn’t stand for anything that we as Christians, or we as conservatives stand for,” said Braedon Wilkerson, a student at Liberty.

“This was a very big win for Liberty Univeristy I think. This is a man that matches up with us on core issues, like believing in God, believing in the right to life, the right to freedom, said Garrett Humbertson, another Liberty student.

Students who support and oppose Mitt Romney’s commencement speaking engagement at Liberty took to the university’s facebook page for comments http://www.facebook.com/#!/LibertyUniversity

Others think the choice of Romney doesn’t reflect its students and university beliefs in politics and the sanctuary.

Liberty University commencement exercises will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Williams Stadium on campus. Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m.

Liberty University was founded in 1971 by the late television Evangelist Jerry Falwell. His vision was to trained Champions for Christ as a world class university. Liberty University is the largest non-profit Christian University in the nation, in Virginia and in the world.

The Berryville, Va., resident had two tickets that matched five of the six Powerball numbers in an April 7 drawing so that each ticket was worth $1 million.

“I’m in shock!” Fike said from the Virginia lottery.

In early April, Fike stopped at an Olde Stone Truck Stop in Virginia with her numbers ready and purchased two tickets.

“I picked numbers based on my parents’ anniversary and their ages at that time, divided by the year they were married,” Virginia Fike said. “I just love the jackpot games and I play when I can afford it.”

They married on May 13, when her mother was 17 and her father was 20. The winning numbers were 5-13-17-20-30.

Fike, who has lived in the same county her entire life, said she originally had planned to buy a Powerball and a MegaMillions ticket using the same numbers, but she mistakenly purchased two Powerball tickets.

The jackpot that week was at $80 million. In order to win the jackpot, the ticket holder had to match the five numbers and the Powerball number.

After the drawing, it was announced that no one had won the jackpot, but 14 people nationwide had matched five of the numbers and were entitled to $1 million prizes each. Two of the winning tickets were in Virginia.

Pike was in the hospital keeping her mother company.

“I saw a scroll on TV about there being two $1 million winners. I looked at my mom and said ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if it was us?’” she said.

When she stopped by a convenience store, Pike had the clerk check her tickets and she discovered that she had won both of Virginia’s $1 million prizes.

Per Virginia state lottery rules, winners split the jackpot, regardless of how many there are, but non-jackpot prizes from matching part of the winning sequence are not split and can be won multiple times.

“It’s not that uncommon for people to buy tickets in games with the same number, but this is the biggest prize we’ve ever had in Virginia of two tickets in the same drawing,” Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty told ABC News.

Pike was presented with a check for $2 million at the truck stop where she purchased the ticket. Winners in Virginia are required to come forward and be identified. She will receive $1.4 million after taxes. The store also received a $200,000 bonus for selling the two winning tickets.

For now, Virginia’s newest millionaire is basking in her shocking win.

“I must be dreaming,” Pike said. “I look forward to helping to take care of my parents and paying some bills.”

Denny Hamlin’s big win at the Kansas Speedway this past Sunday leaves him with two exciting and well-noted victories. Now he can turn his sights toward racing at his hometown track at the Richmond International Raceway where he’s finished in the top five in seven of his 14 Cup starts.
